Chiswick Park wins national landscaping award

Chiswick Park has been shortlisted for a British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI) Award for excellence in grounds maintenance.

The BALI National Landscape Awards in association with Horticulture Week are the premier landscaping awards. To receive a BALI National Landscape Award is one of the landscape industries' highest accolades.

Chiswick Park covers 33 acres. The concept for the park was the creation of a ‘community’ of buildings set within a landscape rather than dominating it. Buildings are arranged to maximize their outlook to open space and water. They occupy zones adjacent to a central ‘Village Green’ area with a series of lakes which form a major amenity functioning as balancing lakes to control storm water run off from roofs and car-parks. The focus of the park is the ‘Village Green’ around a central lake and water fall construction. A range of sports, retail and social facilities are also provided. Buildings have an important location at the interface with the parkland and associated car-parks. A public access right of way runs through the centre of the park and connects with a pedestrian link to Bollo Lane at the north boundary of the site. This is open on a permanent 24 hour basis. Enjoy-Work has five fulltime gardeners on site responsible for all grounds maintenance duties.

The BALI judges commented: "Spotless maintenance with 100% recycling and a continuous improvement plan with an apprenticeship scheme for staff. Educational tours are organised for schools including visits to a wormery fed by left-over food from the restaurants and coffee grounds Starbucks."
